The Islanders wasted little time in locking up one of their key impending unrestricted free agents, agreeing to terms Thursday with center Brock Nelson on a six-year contract.

The deal is worth an average of $6 million annually, according to multiple reports.

Nelson, 27, is coming off a career season in which he had 53 points (25 goals and 28 assists) and a plus-20 rating. The 2010 first-round pick has only missed two games in the past five seasons.

Nelson was integral in the Islanders finishing second in the Metropolitan Division with 103 points before reaching the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Other Islanders set to hit free agency this summer include right wing Jordan Eberle, center and captain Anders Lee, center Valtteri Filpuula and goalie Robin Lehner.
