'Boomer & Gio': Trading Odell Beckham Jr. Was The Right Move For Giants

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman made the right move by trading Odell Beckham Jr., WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti said Wednesday morning.

The Giants shocked the NFL world Tuesday night by dealing their superstar wide receiver to the Cleveland Browns for first- and third-round draft picks and safety Jabrill Peppers.

In endorsing the trade, Esiason went over the laundry list of problems associated with Beckham in recent years -- his injuries, his public criticism of Eli Manning, his peeing-dog touchdown celebration, his role in the Miami boat trip just before the 2016 wild-card game and his viral video with a woman, a pizza and a white powder, just to name a few.

"Enough is a freakin' nuff," Esiason said. "I don't care how good you are. It's tolerance, and it's production. His production the last two years, due in large part to injuries and because he decided to take himself out (the last four games of 2018), he is the all-hype team. This is an all-hype guy that is basically a fruitcake when it comes to being a part of a team."

Esiason said he thinks the Giants sold high on Beckham.

"They got more than the Steelers got for Antonio Brown, and they got more than the Raiders got for Amari Cooper -- and a higher draft pick, by the way," he said.

Gregg Giannotti also said he was on board with the trade but felt it came a year too late.

"As an organization, Gettleman and others didn't have the foresight to say, 'We're going to stink in 2018. We need to do this stuff now,'" Giannotti said.

"They discussed about trading Odell Beckham Jr. They did not. Instead, they signed him to a contract extension, so now they have to eat $16 million in dead cap money. They still don't have the quarterback of the future. They still have Eli Manning on their roster, and they're a mess. Just think about the great position that they would be in if they realized this last year."
