WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti opened their show Friday morning by also giving Judge a thumbs-up, although Gio felt the reaction from fans has been over the top.

"He was good," Giannotti said. "It was a good press conference. He said the stuff he needed to say. It was all the smash-you-in-the-mouth, blue-collar stuff that a fan base loves to hear. A football guy in charge of your football team. I mean, to act as this was like the greatest press conference ever in the history of New York sports I think was a little bit much. And the whole 'I'm running through a wall for this guy' is a little bit much. And I do have a couple questions about that type of guy in his first job as a head coach relating to players. But as far as a first impression went, you can't say a lot of negative things about it."

In his news conference, Judge vowed to bring a physical, throwback brand of football to the Giants.

"We're going to put a product on the field that the people of this city and region are going to be proud of because this team will represent this area," the former Patriots special teams/wide receivers coach said. "We will play fast. We will play downhill. We will play aggressive. We will punch you in the nose for 60 minutes. We will play every play like it has a history and a life of its own with a relentless, competitive attitude."

Esiason said it was easy to see how Judge won over the Giants' brass during his job interview.

As for the press conference, Boomer said: "I think people just wanted a different personality that was going to talk to them -- that we're going to run the ball, we're going to play defense, we're going to be physical. You know, all coaches say that. I mean, that's coachspeak 101. It's how you deliver that coachspeak is whether or not you're going to win the press conference and you're going to have a good first impression on your fan base, which is exactly what I expected from him, and I think he did a great job."

Based on what he heard, Esiason said he expects Judge to try to emulate the Eagles and Ravens.

"That's what they want to look like," he said. "If I told you or asked you about an idea about a particular team in the NFL and you want a tough team, you want a physical team, you would think that Philadelphia's at the top of that list. You would think that Baltimore is at the top of that list. You would think that Tennessee is there. All these teams that are successful, that have made the playoffs. There are some teams that just don't come off as physical, but those couple of teams do. And I think that's exactly what Joe Judge wants right here. And that is music to the Giant fan's ear."
