Calling it the "crowning achievement" of a decadeslong fight against cystic fibrosis, WFAN's Boomer Esiason on Tuesday celebrated his son Gunnar's wedding engagement.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Gunnar Esiason, who was diagnosed with CF at age 2, popped the question to his girlfriend, Darcy, while skiing Monday.

Boomer said on the "Boomer and Gio" show: "It is an amazing, amazing, emotional feeling. And I have to tell you I've never felt like that ever in my life.

"This is everything that we have all been fighting for, for years and years and years and years, all our friends, all of our family members," said Boomer, who runs the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which aims to help people with cystic fibrosis live active, healthy lives.

Boomer explained that just a couple of years ago Gunnar was at "end-stage illness" before he was placed in a drug trial that changed his life.

"It unlocked his future, is what he said to me," Boomer said. "And that's when he decided that he wanted to go to Tuck School of Business up there at Dartmouth."

It was at Dartmouth where Gunnar met his future bride.

"You couldn't have picked a better person for Gunnar," Boomer said. "Darcy, his fiancée, is just an amazing, amazing human being, and the change that she has had on Gunnar is just amazing.

"To see what I see today and to feel what I felt last night has ... made all those really, really long nights and hard days and traveling and fundraising all the more worth it," Boomer added.

Boomer explained he had actually been working to help those with CF before Gunnar was born, thanks to the efforts of sports writer Frank Deford, who lost his daughter, Alexandra, to the disease at age 8.

Boomer said he wishes Frank Deford, who died in 2017, were still alive today to share in the joy of Gunnar's engagement.

"This is the guy that basically set the standard for fundraising in the world of cystic fibrosis and all those families that came before us," Boomer said.
