The Yankees must earn home-field advantage in the playoffs, WFAN's Boomer Esiason said Tuesday.

Listen to your team news NOW.

"I know that everybody talks about it's not that big of a deal in baseball," Esiason said at the start of the "Boomer and Gio" show. "You know what? Two years ago, what happened to the Yankees when they went to Houston?"

Of course, Esiason was referring to the Yankees losing to the Astros in seven games in the 2017 American League Championship Series.

Boomer is now looking down the road to another possible Game 7 between the top two teams in the AL. The Yankees and Astros currently own identical 90-49 records.

"This is what it comes down to with these great teams," Esiason said. "It literally comes down to one game. And it may come down to one at-bat. And I'd much rather have the at-bat at Yankee Stadium with the Yankees and with their bullpen and the way that you can mix and match the way that you want to when you're the home team and because of the friendly confines and there'll be 50,000 crazy Yankee fans there.

"Now, I know I'm putting the cart before the horse. I never really ever do that. But the only reason I'm saying this this morning is because I was just listening to the guys who cover the team every single day and what they're just randomly talking about and how it's not important. (They're saying) it's not that important, we need guys to be rested and ready to go. I'm telling you, if it comes down to a Game 7 in Houston and they lose, I'm going to look back on this day today."

The Yankees and Astros have also been far better in their respective home ballparks. The Bombers are 51-22 at home, and 39-27 on the road. Houston is 51-17 at Minute Maid Park, and 39-32 away.

And, of course, there's a chance the Yankees could be facing Justin Verlander in a Game 7. The American League ERA leader just tossed the third no-hitter of his career Sunday.

"If it is Verlander and it is a Game 7 and he's on that mound down there in Houston, man, you are asking for problems," Esiason said.
