Once again, the Knicks have the worst record in the NBA.

Listen to your team news NOW.

David Fizdale’s team lost 122-102 Wednesday to the Pistons, who haven’t exactly been stellar in the early part of the season. The Knicks were supposed to be more competitive this year than they were last year, but so far that hasn’t been the case.

All the losing is getting to Gregg Giannotti. Giannotti said Thursday morning on “Boomer & Gio” that he thinks Fizdale is failing at his job.

“They were supposed to be better. They were supposed to be competitive. They weren’t going to be a joke. They were going to win something like 30 games. That was the idea. Well, David Fizdale, you’re failing. All we were asking was to win 30-freaking-games! And it doesn’t even look like you can do that.”

Last year’s Knicks finished with the worst record in the league, but that was because they were tanking. They wanted to earn the No. 1 pick in the draft so they could take Duke’s Zion Williamson. They didn’t get the first pick, and now they find themselves back in the cellar of the NBA.

The goal going into this season was just to be better. No one could expect this team to go far in the playoffs or to win a championship, but the players spoke about wanting to be more competitive and about not letting other teams embarrass them. So far, it isn’t working.

Gio wasn’t asking for much. He just wanted a few decent moments to appreciate during the campaign, but now he is worried that the Knicks won’t even deliver that.

“I wanted to have something I could be proud of at some point during this basketball season. That’s where the bar is. That’s it, not playoffs, not anything else, just something to be proud of occasionally with this franchise. And they can’t even meet that bar.”

The Knicks were competitive in a close loss to the Celtics last week, but since then they have produced two ugly results. There was the loss to the Pistons on Wednesday, and before that the Kings had come into Madison Square Garden and routed Fizdale’s squad 113-92 on Sunday night.

Boomer Esiason was a passionate Knicks fan at one point, but he says the franchise’s ineptitude in this century has almost completely turned him off from supporting the team.

“I was done about 10 years ago. I’ve been wiped from emotionally investing in this team … it has been nothing but a hamster of turds for the last 10 years or so. It’s like a reoccurring nightmare. Where is the light at the end of the tunnel? Is it RJ Barrett and that’s it?”
