The Mets had a tremendously disappointing first half of the season.

Listen to your team news NOW.

Since the All-Star break, they have been one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. That recovery in form has helped the Mets recover in the standings as well. They’re now just 1.5 games back in the NL wild-card race.

Barstool’s KFC (a.k.a Kevin Clancy) joined Gregg Giannotti and Jerry Recco (who was filling in for Boomer Esiason) on WFAN Thursday morning. KFC says that meaningful baseball in August is the main goal of the Mets owners.

“It’s August, we’re doing meaningful games in August,” said KFC. “We’re not doing October yet. Marc Carig said ‘no matter what happens this season is now a success’ which is exactly what the Wilpons want to hear, so that they can do absolutely nothing and put no money into this team. This is why this is so make or break, the next six weeks, because if they don’t make it, the Wilpons are going to sit pat.”

Recco disagreed with KFC, and pointed to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen as being the difference this year, and the reason why things will be different in the near future.

“I disagree. With Van Wagenen there now, I really think that’s not true,” said Recco. “I do think he has the ability to do things that maybe others have not been able to.”

Apparently, KFC’s mother, Kathy Clancy, took issue with his words. She called in later in the show to call out her son for his argument about the Mets and the Wilpons.

“I was driving, and I heard him talking about meaningful baseball in August … when I heard him say that on the radio I almost choked. I was like ‘you little brat, I am going to come over and smack you in the face.’”
