New York Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey has revealed that he has been undergoing treatment for a rare form of cancer.

The 45-year-old McGaughey says Thursday that he has Periampullary cancer. It is a bile duct cancer located near the small intestine and strikes about 8,000 people in the United States annually.

McGaughey has been receiving oral medication and chemotherapy. He is now on his fifth round and has a couple more left.

McGaughey disclosed his diagnosis and treatment to the media for the first time, adding that everything is going good.

While he feels drained at times by the treatments, McGaughey didn't consider taking time away from football. He even returns to work as soon as his chemo is finished.

McGaughey isn't the only member of the organization being treated for cancer. General manager Dave Gettleman was diagnosed with lymphoma this spring.
