The New York Yankees are the hottest team in baseball.

Aaron Boone’s team is flying, despite the injuries, and has won nine of its last 10 games. That run has been good enough to push the Yankees up into first place in the AL East, above Tampa Bay, and above Boston in third place.

Gio Urshela is one of the unsung heroes who has stepped up for New York early in the season. Urshela has helped fuel this impressive winning streak that has come with some key players out of the lineup.

On Friday, Boone joined Mike Francesa on WFAN to talk about the Yankees’ recent success. Boone praised Urshela's contributions and, when asked by Francea, claimed that the infielder had earned his place in the major leagues for the foreseeable future.

“Absolutely. I think what we’ve seen, really on both sides of the ball, and because he’s so good defensively too, he has absolutely earned a place on this team now,” said Boone. “It’s hard to envision him not (in the majors) … He has gotten a number of big hits for us. He’s driving the ball. He has just been a steady guy right in that lineup.”

Urshela has truly been a revelation this year. The 27-year-old is batting .333 with 2 home runs and 19 RBIs in 117 at-bats.

The door was opened for Urshela to see increased time when Miguel Andujar finally underwent season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.

Boone also spoke about the performance of Domingo German. The 26-year-old pitcher has shown himself to be a valuable member of the starting rotation, but there are worries that he may need an innings limit as he is set to pitch more this year than he ever has in his professional career. Boone said that the Yankees will have those discussions later in the season if they have to.

“Obviously where we are in the season, with some of the guys we have down … he is such an important part of the rotation right now. We’re just kind of riding it right now, and we’re going to get to a point where I’m sure we’re going to have those discussions.”
